Santé D’Or Foundation and Adoption Center is a community focused rescue located in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. We have a team of four (full and part-time) on staff who manage our amazing volunteers: handling everything from day to day care of the animals onsite, to fostering, TNR, adoption events, fundraising, and so much more.

Our animals come to us from our neighborhood streets or are surrendered by residents experiencing extreme financial hardship, a crisis, or who are otherwise no longer able to care for them. We are proud to be directly impacting our community by accepting animals who would have otherwise likely been euthanized due to overcrowding, or left to roam and reproduce on our harsh city streets.

Many of our rescue animals thus arrive in a sub-optimal state, often affected by a combination of treatable illness, neglect, stress, anxiety, and sometimes even abuse. We provide them with necessary medical treatment by veterinarians, and a healthy diet, coupled with loving care. Our unique approach to animal rescue and adoption places the focus on holistic health care of rescued animals, as well as the bigger picture of our neighborhoods and the planet at large. This nurturing approach translates into healthy and well-adjusted animals, who will make great companions. We understand, however, that just as in the human world, not everyone is right for each other, which is why we take a careful personalized approach to the adoption process.

We provide quality food free of by-products, biodegradable litter, and use eco-friendly products that don’t test on animals. People often say when they visit us, “the animals all seem so healthy, calm and happy.” That’s because they are! Our team of caring volunteers works with the animals morning and evening, seven days a week. And unlike at many shelters, the animals are free to roam and play all day. Our clean, healthy, stress-free environment is where our rescue animals do more than survive; they THRIVE. Our adoption center is open to the public by appointment: please come by and visit and join our community!

SDO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit (Federal ID Number 68-0547925).
